We publish books for the people the algorithm can't quite categorise.

The reader who grew up speaking one language at home and another at school. The reader whose faith and doubt share a kitchen. The reader who has carried a family across an ocean, or watched one carry them. The reader who has been asked, more than once, to leave a piece of themselves at the door before walking in.

If that's you, we're making books for you. Fiction and memoir that crosses cultures, genres, and the line between the spiritual and the everyday. Books that take their time. Books worth keeping.

Seven pieces. A thousand figures.

A tangram is a deceptively simple game. Seven flat shapes that can form a thousand figures. A tiger. A house. A person running. The pieces never change. What you make with them does.

That is why we took the name.

The books we publish are made of pieces that do not always sit together neatly. A faith that lives next door to doubt. A family carried across an ocean and rebuilt on a different street. A name that sounds different in three languages. We are interested in writers working out who they are on the page, and in readers who recognise themselves in the working out.

We started Tangram Press because the books we wanted to read were not being made the way we wanted to read them. Edited slowly. Designed with care. Backed by people who actually believed in them. Sent into the world by someone who had read every word.

We are a small press, and we plan to stay that way. A handful of books a year, each one given the time it needs. We answer our own emails. We meet our writers. We read every submission that follows the rules.

PRINCIPLE 01

Author-first.

We work for the writer, not the algorithm. Honest editorial conversations, fair contracts, and the kind of attention a book deserves. If you publish with us, you will know the people working on your book by name. You will be in the room for the decisions that shape it.

PRINCIPLE 02

Books made to keep.

Paper, type, cover, binding. The object is part of the story. A Tangram book should feel good in your hand the day you buy it and five years after, when you pull it off the shelf to lend it to a friend.

PRINCIPLE 03

A constellation, not a list.

We are not chasing trends. We are publishing books that cross cultures, genres, and the line between the spiritual and the everyday. Each title we add will speak to the others. A reader who loves one Tangram book should find their next one on our shelf.

We are open. Query letters only.

We read everything that fits our ethos. Fiction and memoir that crosses cultures, genres, faiths, or the line between the inner life and the outer one. If you have written a book that does not sit comfortably on one shelf, we would like to see it.

For now, query letters only. No attachments. We will not open them.

Word count, genre, and where you are with the manuscript. Finished, drafting, or revising.

We read every query that follows the rules. Because we are a small team publishing only a handful of books a year, we only reply to the queries we want to take further.

If you have not heard from us within two weeks, please take it as a no on this manuscript. It is not a no on you. Writers write more than one book, and we would rather you spent your energy on the next one than waiting on us.
